Australia finally managed to retain the Ashes after taking 2-1 lead into the five-match series when they won the fourth Test at Old Trafford, Manchester on Sunday.

Steve Smith’s double century in the first innings helped Australia post a huge total of 497, and in response to this, England somehow managed to escape follow on and got all out at 301. In the second innings, Smith again stood up to play counterattacking innings of 82 that helped the visitors add 186 runs to their lead of 196 from the first innings. England failed miserably chasing a target of 383 and could manage only 197 before they got all out in the last hour of the fifth day of the Test.

This series was also the comeback series for Steve Smith, David Warner and Cameron Bancroft who were handed a year-long ban from cricket for their involvement in ball tampering scandal in South Africa. For Smith, the Ashes was a dream comeback as he scored 671 runs in just five innings, averaging 134.2.

But for Bancroft and Warner, the series didn’t quite go well. While Bancroft played only two Tests of the four in the series, Warner opened all the innings for Australia with changing partners. The problem for the left-handed batsman was Stuart Broad once again as he was seen struggling badly against the English seamer. Broad has got Warner out six times so far in the series and out of those six, last three were back to back ducks to the same bowler.

Despite failing to perform on individual front, Warner was seen celebrating team’s victory with all his spirits, and the fans on Twitter found a new troll in his celebrations.
